Her educational pursuits led her to a Journalism degree at the University of Texas, Austin, only to embark on a whirlwind of professional endeavors that took her across the United States. Yet, it was Austin's siren call that brought her back, a testament to her commitment to fostering understanding and embracing novel technologies.

Amidst the global upheaval brought by the pandemic, Mónica found herself in Dallas, leading communications for an international business giant's Latin American division. In the midst of her demanding role, she discovered a new passion in the world of investing, particularly in cryptocurrencies. However, she observed a stark absence: a scarcity of Spanish-language content on blockchain, crypto, and the dawn of Web3. This void spurred her into action, initially conceiving a blog to fill the gap. But a pivotal suggestion from a close friend transformed her vision. And so, CryptoConexión was born, a platform providing Spanish content to anyone navigating the complex landscapes of Web3 and AI.

Mónica envisions AI as the driving force propelling the future of communications, poised to reshape personalization, automation, content generation, and real-time engagement. Yet, amidst this transformation, she emphasizes the irreplaceable human touch that forms authentic connections in a world driven by algorithms.

“In terms of opportunities, AI opens the door for more targeted and impactful communication. It can empower businesses to understand their audience better, enhance their customer service, improve their brand image, and maximize their productivity,” she states before proceeding, “It also offers the potential to deliver real-time, personalized content at a scale that humans alone could never achieve. The key will be to balance the advantages of AI with a human touch to create authentic and meaningful connections.”

Throughout her career, Mónica has demonstrated a knack for tackling complex issues head-on. During the global pandemic, as she spearheaded communications for AT&T's Latin American business, she confronted the challenge of swift remote transition with an ingenious multi-faceted communication strategy. This is a hallmark of her leadership style: clear communication, adaptability, and a deep-seated belief in the power of diverse teams.

Diversity, gender equality, and entrepreneurship are more than buzzwords for Mónica; they are guiding principles woven into the fabric of her professional journey. This commitment is reflected in initiatives like HER DAO LATAM, a collaboration with Unstoppable Domains.

“In March 2023, we proudly published a list of 50 women leading Web3 in Latin America. We continuously strive to amplify the work of Latin American entrepreneurs across our platforms, embodying our dedication to these values.”

Mónica’s quest for knowledge has driven her to complete MIT Executive Education programs, including Artificial Intelligence in Business and Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Technologies. These experiences haven't just expanded her technological horizons, they've catalyzed a paradigm shift in her approach to communication. The once-daunting concepts of tech now serve as stepping stones to make complex ideas accessible to a broad audience.

Guiding and advising startups at Google Launchpad and Morgan Stanley's Multicultural Innovation Lab have imprinted valuable lessons on her. Her advice to emerging entrepreneurs rests on two pillars: the clarity of value proposition and steadfast focus.

“Know what sets your offering apart and why customers should choose it. This clarity forms the foundation of your business and shapes your strategy,” she explains. “Secondly, in the dynamic world of startups, it's easy to get distracted by the 'next big thing.' However, building a successful business requires persistence and time. Your defined value proposition serves as a compass, guiding you and keeping you focused on your goal. These two pieces of advice are interlinked: a well-defined value proposition is key to maintaining focus. Remember, patience and persistence are just as important as innovation when building a startup.”

Positioning in communication - to drive behavior change and consumer engagement - is a concept she holds close to her heart.

“It is critical - it's how a brand defines itself in the mind of its audience relative to its competitors. Effective positioning creates a unique impression that distinguishes the brand and influences consumer behavior,” Mónica states, explaining that understanding your audience and establishing a distinct value proposition are vital, enabling tailored messages and differentiation; meanwhile, fostering behavior change and engagement hinges on maintaining consistent messaging across platforms to solidify brand position, thereby cultivating trust and shaping behavior through recognition and reliability.

Her journey has been punctuated by lessons from her leadership roles at prominent organizations like Vrio Corp, ADT, and Univision. These lessons have cultivated her leadership style characterized by clarity, adaptability, and a profound belief in the power of diversity.
