In a remarkable journey spanning just four years, DPW's annual flagship conference in Amsterdam has undergone a meteoric transformation. What began with a humble gathering of 450 attendees has swiftly ballooned into a congregation of over 5,000 procurement enthusiasts hailing from more than 90 countries.

The origins of DPW trace back to 2019 when its founder, Matthias Gutzmann, found himself immersed in the world of procurement conferences. He was on a mission to showcase his then-employer, a startup, to the global procurement community. However, Matthias' frustration mounted as he encountered a glaring gap in the market. Existing conferences were prohibitively expensive, making them an impractical choice for startups operating on a tight budget. Moreover, they lacked the presence of investors and the critical audience of startup businesses needed to drive digital transformation and innovation in procurement and supply chain.

Identifying this glaring void, Matthias made a bold decision. He left his cushy job in New York, returned to his parents' house in Germany, and made a courageous investment - pouring his entire personal savings into the launch of DPW.

In September 2019, DPW's inaugural conference took flight, shattering expectations. It garnered a record-breaking attendance of over 400 industry leaders hailing from 33 countries. The resounding success of this event earned it the well-deserved accolade of being "the best new procurement event in years." It was a watershed moment that signified the beginning of DPW's rise.
